Since the practice started to offer Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) Eye Health Scanning as part of regular eye examinations we have managed to signpost some of our patients to secondary care in a more certain and timely fashion. We have also been able to reassure some who have presented with worrying symptoms that all is well without the need for a hospital appointment.
OCT scanners are hospital grade equipment which use safe lasers to produce 3D images of your retinal microstructures. This can assist in the early detection and monitoring of diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age related macula degeneration. OCT scanning is quick and painless, taking only a few minutes to perform.
An OCT Health Scan is included in all of our private eye examinations and is also available to our NHS funded patients for an additional private fee of £40 as it is not covered by the NHS fee.
We recommend OCT Eye Health Scanning to all our patients. For less than the cost of a cup of coffee once a month in Café Nero, you can invest in the benefits this technology has to offer.
