On Monday 18th December 2024, Jacksons Styling Opticians officially received the coveted National Opticians of the Year award from the trade association, Optical Success Academy, in a ceremony at the practice on Welsh Row, Nantwich. Nibbles and bubbles were served, and a number of community leaders attend including Councillor Stuart Bostock, Mayor of Nantwich Town Council with his Consort Kath Bostock.
In September, the owner of Jacksons Styling Opticians, Helen Corson competed at the Optical Success Academy conference in Manchester, with over 100 of the top independent opticians in the UK. Due to their amazing story of growth and innovative business practices they were crowned the winner of the Independent Optician Practice of the Year.
Director of Optical Success Academy Conor Heaney travelled to Jacksons to present them with their award and to recognise their achievements in the business community of Nantwich.
Jacksons Styling Opticians was recognised for offering their patients something truly different in terms of eyewear style and a very personal customer experience. The annual award from Optical Success Academy, an industry association consisting of the top independent opticians in the UK and Ireland, represents the best of the best.
The story of Jacksons is a compelling one. Jacksons was started in 1888 By Chemist Optician Mr Turner. His daughter married Mr SW Jackson an optometrist who took over the business and who in turn passed it to his son Mr Cameron Jackson. Sadly in 2007, Cameron became ill and was forced to sell the practice as his children had not followed him into the profession.
Helen purchased the practice and has worked hard ever since to constantly uplift and improve the service offering to her patients embracing both modern eyecare technology and the boutique side of eyewear provision. Not an easy feat as in the early days she was the single parent to boisterous son Felix, and latterly has moved away from Nantwich to take up residency on Anglesey.
Jacksons is all about fantastic eyecare and unique eyewear design from independent niche eyewear designers.
“It is small independent manufacturers who set the trends and are at the cutting edge of eyewear design.” Says Helen. “We wanted to make Jacksons a place for people who expect outstanding eyecare and who wear glasses proudly and want to make a statement with their eyewear. We source frames from all over the world to bring our patients something they will not see in every other optician’s practice”
“As an independent business, I believe we still have a place in the world today because people still value personal service and being treated like an individual rather than just a number.”
Not ones to rest on their laurels, Helen and her team were also nominated this Autumn for Optician Magazine Technology Practice of the Year.
